And today, finally, I’m going to talk about lettuce. So now it’s October and the food blogs are soon to be filled to the brim with pumpkin cheesecakes and apple pies but here in Sicily, summer is still hanging on. And then I just sort of moved on and the lettuce photos have been sitting and waiting ever since. But, instead of sharing my tips about lettuce, I ended up writing about the lime and mint salad dressing I made that same day. I thought it was so important that I actually took a series of photos so that I could show you exactly what to do with your lettuce. There are a few things that I think everyone needs to know about how to wash, dry, and store lettuce. Well, back in June, I decided that I had to talk to you about lettuce. Some days I just feel like writing about certain things.īut when I have ideas, I try to at least put them down on paper (you should see the piles of notepads that are scattered throughout my house!) so that someday, when I’m good and ready, I’ll get around to it. But it just won’t be posted until it’s ready to be posted! I really can’t even explain how my process works. I can tell myself that I want to share my mom’s Potato Leek Soup recipe, I can take photos of it, I can even begin to write about it. I never write what I plan on writing when I plan on writing it. Have you ever wondered the best way to store lettuce so that it lasts longer and is ready to go for salads and meal prepping? ![]()

![]() ![]() It must be noted here that the phrase ‘sensitive personal data or information’ has not been defined by the Act.Ĭhapter XI of the Act deals with the offences and Section 66 lays down the penalty for contravention of Section 43 which amounts to an imprisonment of upto three years or fine upto five lakh rupees or both. If such a body corporate is negligent in implementing reasonable security practices and it causes wrongful loss or wrongful gain to any person, it shall be liable to pay damages by way of compensation to the person so affected. A new Section 43 A has been inserted to protect sensitive personal data or information possessed, dealt or handled by a body corporate in a computer resource which such body owns, controls or operates. USD 200,000) prescribed under this Section before the Amendment has been deleted and now the defaulter is made liable to pay damages by way of compensation to the person so affected. Chapter IX of the Act refers to provisions relating to penalties, compensation and adjudication and Section 43 covers a wide range of cyber contraventions related to unauthorized access to computer, computer system, computer network or resources. This Amendment was the need of the hour as India does not have a separate statute pertaining to data protection or cyber crimes per se. Very recently, the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008 was enacted which introduced several new provisions relating to data protection, privacy, cyber terrorism etc. India has in place the Information Technology Act, 2000 (‘Act’) which provides legal recognition for transactions carried out by means of electronic data interchange and other means of electronic communication. Thus there is an urgent need to enact and enforce stringent laws pertaining to cyber offences. ![]() Cyber attacks are becoming increasingly common in both public and private sectors. The basic difference between both is that while indulging in Corporate Espionage, the internet and connections used are equipped with a more advanced ‘attacking’ mode. Spying involves the use of almost the same technology as the one used for Competitive Intelligence i.e. Spies no longer need to physically break into offices or homes to acquire sensitive information. The means of spying have also undergone substantial transformations with the advent of technology. The internet has now become a ‘highway of information’ when it comes to gathering and processing information and data in relation to anything and anyone. Where Competitive Intelligence is ethical and legal, Corporate Espionage is the exact opposite. There is a very thin line of difference between Corporate Espionage and Competitive Intelligence. In today’s world where it is truly the survival of the fittest, knowing one’s own competition has become very important for most corporations/organizations. The information thieves use many intrusive methods in order to gain such sensitive information for instance eavesdropping by bugging offices, wiretapping, recording telephone conversations, penetrating computer networks etc. resulting in breach of security of an organization and gaining access to its confidential and sensitive information. It covers within itself illegal activities such as theft of trade secrets, business plans, customers’ lists, pricing data, bribery, blackmail, technological surveillance etc. Thus, ‘Corporate Espionage’ basically refers to a practice wherein a corporate system or structure is impregnated with the help of spies or systems so as to facilitate the leakage of information which could mar the general growth of the victim organization. ‘Espionage’, according to the Oxford Dictionary, is the practice of spying or of using spies. The Oxford Dictionary defines the word ‘Corporate’ as relating to a business corporation, of or shared by all members of a group. The word ‘Corporate’ has been derived from the Latin word corporatus or corpus which means body. ![]() ![]() In order to understand the concept of Corporate Espionage, we must first understand the etymology of the words used therein. A gene mutation is associated with low levels of hypocretin. Scientists think many factors may cause low hypocretin levels. One of the functions of hypocretin is regulating your sleep-wake cycles. However, most people with type 1 ( narcolepsy with cataplexy) have a decreased amount of a brain protein called hypocretin. The exact cause of narcolepsy is unknown. Narcolepsy can also be associated with other sleep conditions, such as: Automatic behaviorsĪfter falling asleep during an activity like eating or driving, a person with narcolepsy may continue doing that activity for a few seconds or minutes without consciously realizing they’re doing it. Fragmented sleepĪlthough people with narcolepsy are excessively sleepy during the daytime, they may have difficulty falling asleep and/or staying asleep at night. People with narcolepsy may frequently have vivid dreams that may occur when falling asleep or waking up. It doesn’t affect eye movements or the ability to breathe, though. ![]() Sleep paralysis mimics the paralysis seen during REM sleep. Episodes last only a few seconds or minutes. Sleep paralysis is an inability to move or speak while falling asleep, sleeping, or waking. REM sleep can happen at any time of day for people with narcolepsy, often within about 15 minutes after falling asleep. It usually starts about 90 minutes after you fall asleep. REM sleep is the sleep stage when you have vivid dreams with loss of muscle tone. Poorly regulated rapid eye movement (REM) sleep Sometimes cataplexy may occur later in the disease course, or may go undetected due to medications that suppress it, such as certain antidepressants. It can happen several times a day to once a year. How often it occurs varies from person to person. Laughing and intense emotions, such as excitement and fear, can trigger cataplexy. It can range from drooping eyelids (referred to as partial cataplexy) to total body collapse. CataplexyĬataplexy is a sudden, temporary loss of muscle tone. EDS makes it difficult to function properly during the day. Significant daytime sleepinessĪlmost everyone with narcolepsy has excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS), in which you suddenly experience an overwhelming urge to sleep. How often and how intensely narcolepsy symptoms occur can vary. Treatments are available to help manage the condition. Narcolepsy isn’t a deadly disease by itself, but episodes can lead to accidents, injuries, or life-threatening situations.Īdditionally, people with narcolepsy may have difficulty maintaining jobs, doing well in school, and have problems maintaining relationships due to episodes of excessive daytime sleepiness. When cataplexy is absent, it’s called narcolepsy type 2. This can be mistaken for seizure activity, especially in children. In many cases, it also causes unexpected and temporary loss of muscle control, known as cataplexy. Narcolepsy causes significant daytime drowsiness and “ sleep attacks,” or overwhelming urges to fall asleep, and poor fragmented sleep at night. ![]() It typically starts in the mid-teenage years. The symptoms of narcolepsy usually begin between the ages of 7 and 25, although the condition is often not recognized right away and often misdiagnosed.
